Autumn Gathering

As we move from an unusually delightful summer, past the Equinox and well into Autumn, people everywhere are succumbing to lurgies!

A normal part of life, seasonal illnesses have taken on a more sinister cloak in the last few years since the covid phenomenon.

What seems to me to be very evident and very disempowering, is a loss in our faith in our bodies to both cope with and indeed thrive through these health challenges.

A concept I came across last year was ‘salutogenesis’. Medically, the development of illness is termed, ‘pathogenesis’. This concept considers an illness to be a setback, taking us away from health, that we must recover from in order to regain our health.

Salutogenesis considers illness differently. It considers an illness to be a challenge through which the system can grow and expand and in the process of healing, come to a superior state of health.

Health is not a static state, it is a continual development, in which illnesses are a part of that journey, bringing to light past traumas and stuck areas of development to be healed.

One might consider it to be a spiral, in which we revisit certain issues periodically, but each time from a more advanced position. Seasons are cyclical, lunar cycles are cyclical and days are of course cyclical.

Our bodies are by no means exempt from these cycles and traditional healing disciplines recognise this. Traditionally, humans also gave themselves permission to vary their activities based on these cycles. Humans would in the past have allowed themselves more rest and withdrawal in winter time. This is the season we are now preparing for and our bodies naturally adjust for this change.

When we can recognise how our bodies are intelligently responding to seasonal and cyclical changes, we can support our bodies to do this, rather than fighting them, being abusive towards them or placing additional demands on them.

Our bodies are well adjusted to the natural rhythms of the Earth and NOT to the chaotic demands of our current culture of incessant activity and productivity.

This season, can you take time to tune in to what your body is asking you to do? This will enhance your body’s ability to cope with the changing demands it faces.

When we work with our bodies, not against them, life will flow much more easily!

Do not underestimate the power of nature to support you through seasonal transitions and rites of passage. Its wisdom is rooted in the Earth which gave you life!

At Three Realms Health we can offer gentle ways to honour and respect your body’s needs, supporting it to work effectively for you and indeed to thrive!

If you are facing challenges at this time, or if you are sensing your body, mind or soul is in need of some fine tuning, how about checking in for an appointment. Sometimes your system is just waiting for you to stop and ask what you can do to help it!
